BLACK AND WHITE

2March - 8 April 2000

Those familiar with some of the recent projects of Christo and Jeanne-Claude - such as the orange Valley Curtain in Colorado, the vivid pink of the floating fabric in the Surrounded islands in Miami, the blue and yellow Umbrellas in Japan and USA, or the shimmering silver facade of the Reichstag in Berlin - may find it strange to have an exhibition devoted mainly to their work in black and white. However, many of their earliest objects were only conceived in black and white and in the early phase of every project first black and white collages and drawings were created which are among Christo's finest preparatory works.

This exhibition which contains works spanning more than 40 years celebrates this important aspect of their work and is the tenth held in our gallery since our collaboration began in 1968.

Gallery opening times: Monday – Friday 10 am – 6 pm
Saturday 10 am – 1 pm
