Nina Kogan

These Suprematist Compositions were done at the “Unovis” in Vitebsk, where Nina Kogan was an assistant to Malevich, teaching Suprematist painting (she was the only one to have this pedagogical charge). Her teaching is described in detail in the diaries of Lev Judin and there is more information in the forthcoming Malevich monograph.

Lately several texts concerning Vitebsk have been published in Russia containing more detail on Kogan in Vitebsk. Nina Kogan was also responsible for the Malevich Suprematist exhibition which was held in Moscow at the Museum of Painterly Culture in early 1923
