In the film Who's afraid of the big bad Wolf? we see a round red balloon that wavers as an Electrolux guitar plays out the tune of the title. The tune, indistinct, is played by Mickey. He tunes up, slides a loony toon, psyching himself up to leave the darkness.

The film’s structure is in two halves, marked by the cross fade at the mid point. This determines the film’s formal composition. A small girl enters the frame and holding the red balloon walks towards the figure on the beach; time slows. Even though the five elements; Mickey, the girl, the balloon, the guitar and the tune all have references of disparate origin, the collage of the two halves is given time to fuse, to juxtapose, and attempts to draw a connection, to encircle. The vacuum plays on, the tune repeats. As the characters meet in the far distance the balloon floats away, but the loop is incomplete. We have not come full circle, but to the end, and then once again the film starts, running on a loop, playing endlessly.
