David Hockney: Digital Drawing

26 January - 25 March 2017

Annely Juda Fine Art is delighted to be showing a selection of works by David Hockney, all of which utilise digital means to create the final image.  The exhibition coincides with Hockney’s retrospective exhibition at Tate Britain from February 9th – May 29th 2017.

David Hockney has always vigorously embraced new technologies, whether it be the use of polaroid photography, the fax machine, photoshop, digital film or – more recently – the iPad.  Using the ‘Brushes’ app on the iPad, Hockney enjoys the freedom of drawing ‘en plein air’ and the ability to go back to various ‘layers’ of his drawing process.  Landscape scenes depict the changing seasons in Woldgate Woods in Hockney’s native Yorkshire or the dramatic landscape of Yosemite National Park, California.  Meanwhile, Hockney’s Painting and Photography series use a mixture of photography, painting and photoshop and feature interior scenes and portraits in Hockney’s Los Angeles studio, further exploring Hockney’s career-long exploration of the illusion of space and what he calls "the tyranny of one-point perspective”.
