This painting typifies the pared-down, geometric style for which Vordemberge-Gildewart is celebrated. He pursued abstraction throughout his career, numbering his oils 1 – 223; he first called them 'constructions' in reference to architecture (a discipline he also practiced) and later 'compositions', as an evocation of music. Several paintings from this period reside in public collections, testifying to the creative zenith of this time: No. 127 is located in the IVAM Centre Julio Gonzales in Valencia and No. 131 is in the permanent collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
