Nigel Hall, Spirit, in Hanover Square until 2027

Annely Juda Fine Art announces Nigel Hall's sculpture, Spirit, in Hanover Square Gardens until February 2027.

The sculpture accompanies the exhibition in the gallery, Nigel Hall: My Choice, until April 25th 2026.

Positioned against an urban backdrop, "Spirit" makes a bold yet refined statement. The corten steel’s natural patina allows the work to sit harmoniously in an outdoor setting, while its looping form reflects Hall’s ongoing focus on space, movement, and balance. Avoiding the mere illustration of surrounding space, this work translates his observations into elliptical lines and reduced forms, revealing how he explores relations between light and shade, line and plane, form and void, stillness and motion. The elliptical forms that dominate Hall’s sculptural works allude to the artist’s perception that all is mutable. Reflecting his own views of landscapes and spaces, they allude to the fact that circular shapes appear as ellipses in perspectival distortion as we move past them.

Nigel Hall, RA, is one of Britain’s most distinguished sculptors. His works, principally made of steel, aluminium or polished wood are concerned with three-dimensional space, mass and line. His abstract drawings and geometric sculptures give as much prominence to voids and shadows as to the solidity of material and each work changes with light and viewpoint reflecting the landscapes or surroundings that inspire them. The internal empty spaces become forms, framed by the sculpture itself.
