ART SG: Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

12 - 15 January 2023
Booth BC05

Annely Juda Fine Art is delighted to participate in the inaugural edition of ART SG at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from 12th – 15th January 2023.

Our booth focuses on prime examples of works by represented gallery artists including David Hockney, Katsura Funakoshi, David Nash and Suzanne Treister.  We will also show important works by twentieth-century avant-garde artists such as Naum Gabo (born 1890) and Theo van Doesburg (born 1883). In addition, we will show a Japanese Raku ceramic tea bowl from our recent exhibition ‘Kasimir Malevich, Raku Kichizaemon XV.’

A highlight of our booth will be portrait works by David Hockney of the musician Bruno Mars and of Jonathan Wilkinson.  Completed in 2018 – 2019 in the artist’s Los Angeles studio, these portraits belong to a series of works painted using a mixture of charcoal, crayon, acrylic and pencil directly on canvas and display Hockney’s brilliant draughtsmanship and distinctive use of line and colour.  Portraiture remains an important element in Hockney’s groundbreaking oeuvre and it is our honour to bring these impressive works to Singapore for the first time, coupled with a ink drawing portraits of Hockney’s sister and James Wilkinson.

A further highlight will be a special presentation of small works by David Nash that will somewhat mirror the aesthetics of the Japanese tradition of Suseki and its earlier iteration of the Chinese scholar’s rocks Gongshi (Japanese cultural tradition of small naturally occurring rocks appreciated for their aesthetic value). David Nash has had a long interest in Eastern philosophy, most directly seen in Nash’s referencing the work of the Japanese Monk, Sengai Gibon, in which Nash has returned to throughout his career in the form of his Sphere, Triangle, Cube pyramid drawings, sculptures and installations (directly influenced by Sengai’s painting Maru-Sankaku-Shikaku, simply called The Universe in English and is an image of an overlapping square, triangle and sphere in ink on paper).

Annely Juda Fine can be found at Booth BC05.
