Suzanne Treister’s HEXEN 5.0 is now on show at the 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, Séance: Technology of the Spirit, opening today at Seoul Museum of Art.
HEXEN 5.0, Treister’s most recent Tarot card series, comprises of 78 watercolours based on ancient alchemical drawings. Continuing a tradition in which science, art, and spirituality are inseparable, the series offers a holistic approach to the systemic crises threatening life on Earth.
Treister’s exploration of the tarot makes connections between environmental adaptation and innovations in science-fiction, technological advances, new forms of communication and the changing organisation of corporate and state power. The artist prompts her viewers to reflect on the forces shaping our world and question how we might forge an ethical, sustainable future for our species.
